    IOMAXIS has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer to support the IOMAXIS high performance computing (HPC) and the software defined networking (SDN) laboratories. Responsibilities specific to these laboratories include providing system administration and assisting with HPC and SDN project development. In addition, the individual will have the opportunity to leverage their research skills to assist with research and development (R&D) directives that explore and develop new and emerging technologies.


    This is an entry-level, full-time opening located in Lorton, VA. Anticipated start date: May 2018.  



    The selected candidate will be responsible for:

    • The administration and ongoing development of the HPC laboratory and supporting related projects;
    • Assisting with the initial development of the SDN laboratory;
    • The administration and ongoing development of the SDN laboratory and supporting related projects;
    • Writing and maintaining documentation such as SOPs, network diagrams, configuration management policies, etc.;
    • Providing HPC and SDN laboratory updates to team members;
    • Assisting the R&D group research efforts on new and emerging technologies;
    • Writing research summaries, updates, and reports.


    This position seeks an individual who enjoys applying their technical knowledge and skills in a laboratory and research environment. The ideal candidate should be comfortable configuring and managing network hardware and Linux based operating systems and be able to effectively document such systems in written form. In addition, the candidate should be able to apply their strong understanding of research methodologies and processes to unique engineering challenges, contributing to effective solutions when given flexible, rigid, or non-existent parameters. 



    • Experience programming in C/C++, Python, MATLAB
    • Proficiency in Linux operating system administration and switch and routing hardware configuration
    • Knowledge of HPC and SDN theories and principals
    • Knowledge and understanding of common network communication protocols
    • Awareness of new network communication theories and protocols
    • Fundamental understanding of research methodologies and processes
    • Technical writing experience
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

              o  The ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences

              o  The ability to coherently communicate using e-mail and technical research reports

    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a collaborative environment consisting of varying technical backgrounds
    • Organized
    • An analytical, critical thinker
    • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
    • Strong understanding of research methodologies and processes
    • The ability to develop novel solutions


    • Experience programming in Fortran (not required)



    • Must have or be eligible for a Secret Security Clearance.
